A Podiatrist's Barefoot Running Blog (Part 5)

Another short update from Dr. Randy Beckman and his experience running in the Vibram Five Fingers:

I was in the country with my wife this weekend and we decided to go for a short run, kinda slow, but in the hills. I wore the five fingers from the beginning of the run and we ran for 2 ½ miles. I certainly felt some soreness in my right Achilles after the run. It was interesting to feel more pain when going downhill vs uphill. Also, the next 2 days my feet were pretty sore, making Monday’s run difficult.

Beckman out!

You can learn more about Dr. Beckman at www.TxFootDoctor.com. I thank him for continuing to share his experiences and look forward to more.

  1. Hi,
I'm enjoying your blog about getting started with VFF running. I bought my first pair about 6 weeks ago as an incentive to get out there and run in all the Houston heat and humidity. It worked a little too well. I had so much fun I overdid it a bit and now am dealing with a strained ankle (top of foot/front of ankle). After resting it for 10 days, it is feeling pretty good and I'm anxious to get back out there armed with a little more common sense. Thanks for sharing your experience. I've wondered how podiatrists would look at minimalist running shoes like VFF. As you have actual experience running in them, your opinions are much more valuable. Thanks for blogging.
